OVERVIEW
Aspen, is situated at a height of 2,438m in the rocky mountain state of Colorado, USA. It has a historical past as a 19th century mining town which has evolved into a sophisticated ski resort. Aspen, in 2018, had a population of 7,365 which of course increases with the many visitors that love to come to this very popular resort, including world famous celebrities. With it’s fabulous high class shops, restaurants and bars, there is much to enjoy, even just strolling about in the evenings is a real treat, if you enjoy apres ski you will not be disappointed in Aspen. Aspen is divided into four separate ski areas known as Aspen Snowmass. All four areas are connected by a free shuttle bus.
Ajax
Ajax is the site of the silver mining town of Aspen and set at the foot of the Aspen mountain itself. There’s lots of challenging terrain here for the adventurous.
Aspen Highlands
Aspen Highlands are located 5km from Aspen has the most difficult terrain of all.
Buttermilk
Buttermilk is the only resort without a base village, however, it has a centre at the base station, called The Hideout, dedicated to helping children learn to ski on gentle slopes. The Hideout has four learning rooms incorporating interactive play, it also offers lunch facilities. Buttermilk has long gentle runs perfect for beginners and the more tentative intermediates.
Snowmass
Snowmass is a purpose built resort approximately 16km further on to the west of Aspen and is larger than the other three ski areas put together. It has an Ice Age centre exhibiting dinosaur skeletons that have been discovered in the valley, including a wooly mammoth, well worth a visit.
