OVERVIEW
Val D'Isere is situated at 1850m in the Parc National de la Vanoise valley and is connected to the ski area of Tignes making up 300km of skiable pistes. It lies in the Savoie region of the French Alps and part of the Espace Killy ski area, named after the three times Olympic ski champion and World Cup champion Jean-Claude Killy. Val d’Isere is renowned for its huge annual snowfall where you'll enjoy amazing skiing at its best from late November to early May, whether you're a skier or a snowboarder. The main resort has an authentic mixture of old cosy buildings, including chalets, restaurants, shops, cafes, bars, along the Olympic Avenue, and also boasts a Baroque church. Wander through the romantic lit streets at night or eat with family and friends, grab a drink, or take to the chi chi shops. It's quite magical! Also check out the weekly entertainment programme that boasts activities from ice driving to ice skating, there's something for everyone.
Many of the chalets have ski in ski out facilities and a free shuttle bus service links the small villages together.
La Daille
2km's from Val d’Isere lies the small resort of La Daille. The resort’s accommodation is mainly high rise apartments which can offer good deals for self catering and also good access to the Espace Killy ski area on the heated gondola. You can ski straight onto the Belvedere side of the mountain, past the famous Folie Douce, which also links up with Tignes. The regular bus service takes you to the centre of Val d’Isere in 10 minutes and walking takes approximately 30 minutes. Another bus transports you to the Rond Point and the Solaise area of the slopes in 15 minutes
Le Joseray, La Leggettaz and Le Chatelard
Stunningly nestled on the mountainside with breathtaking views and a river running through are the three popular hamlets of Le Joseray, La Leggettaz and Le Chatelard. If you are looking for an upmarket and quieter destination to spend your holiday then you can’t go wrong booking into one of the beautiful chalets, hotels and apartments. Many of the accommodations have ski in ski out facilities, with a few local bistros and bars. The free regular bus service links up to the main resort in 5 minutes through a tunnel to the centre of Val d’Isere where you can indulge in the shops, restaurants and bars that are on offer there or it's a 15 minute walk across the piste.
Le Laisinant
La Laisinant is a hamlet between Val d'Isere and Le Fornet with its own express lift to Val d’Isere and Tignes, with a speed of five metres per second it will whizz you up onto the slopes in no time. The hamlet also has frequent free buses to the main areas and offers good quality accommodation.
Le Fornet
Situated just 5km from Val d’Isere, La Fornet is a charming village of Savoyard wood and stone traditionally built chalets, narrow streets and the church all add to this idyllic setting. Less busy than its famous neighbour it offers a quieter picturesque alternative to the hubbub of the town centre. Above Le Fornet is the Passailas Glacier which also has lots of ski runs. Shuttle buses run daily to connect you to the larger areas.
